The Morrigan's Best of 2022ish

The end of the year always brings lists of top 10's, best, worst, all that. I'm not doing a worst list because it's shitty to criticize someone's hard work, even if it's not for you. So we're focusing on the positive and the awesome.

It's not really a secret that I'm a huge scaredy cat and I'd rather watch a Lifetime movie than a horror movie. That said, I do try to watch most the movies Rev does (most of them I nope right out of there), but I have seen some truly awesome horror movies this year. So this is my list of the best movies that I saw for the first time this year. Some were released this year, and some are new to me this year.

These are in no particular order:

I LOVED this movie. Not only is it visually striking, but the cinematography draws you and makes you feel like you're not just watching from your couch, but that you're an active observer in the movie. The Stylist is smart, engaging and twisted as hell.

1BR is twisty and unpredictable, and a really fun watch. The acting and writing is outstanding. While it is a true horror movie, it's also a psychological thriller, the kind that really sticks with you long after the credits roll.

I had no idea what to expect when I started this movie, but the trailer does not do it justice. This is one of those movies that you're not quite sure who to root for. It also has one of the most shocking, came out of nowhere (as in I literally said, "holy shit, what the fuck?!") scenes in a movie I've seen in a long time.

This is not your average witch movie, this is the story of a badass mother and daughter witch duo. The acting in this movie is insanely good, the story is incredible, and it draws you in immediately. The soundtrack is incredible and adds yet another layer to this amazing film.

I loved American Mary immediately. I'd never seen anything by the Soska Sisters before, and now I'm obsessed. Mary's story isn't just about revenge, but REVENGE, and she manages to get a little side hustle going. Super dark, super fucked up, loved it.

Fresh is this weird romantic, horrifying, what the fuck am I watching movie. It's visually stunning, and the acting is outstanding. I watched the entire movie dumbstruck at what was happening, and then I decided to become a vegan.

Rev says it's an unforgivable tragedy that I'd never seen this before, and to be honest, when he suggested it, I fully anticipated "watching" it while I played on my phone. I literally could not look away from this movie. I really loved it, and can't believe it took this long to watch it. I know y'all have seen and love this movie, so there really isn't anything to say except, I'm sorry. I'm sorry I made fun of people who loved an insane alien movie. I couldn't make the connection between Overboard Kurt Russell and alien hunter Kurt Russell. I was wrong. I'm sorry. The Thing kicks ass.
